X-FACTOR FINALIST IS OFF TO SEE THE WIZ
This summer X-Factor finalist isnt seeking the wise words of Simon Cowell but is searching for a way back home with some help from THE WIZ. Fresh from the 2010 finals of the UKs biggest talent competition Treyc will be easing on down the road to take centre stage in West Yorkshire Playhouse and Birmingham Reps production of award winning musical THE WIZ. Originally opened on Broadway in 1975 and running for four years, it went on to become a cult movie starring Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow and Diana Ross as Dorothy.
The Wiz is a wonderful soul musical based on the classic story The Wizard of Oz. Following in the footsteps of some very famous Dorothys, Treyc will be leading an exceptional company of actors including Clive Rowe as Lion and Peter Straker as The Wiz. Alongside them a committed and brilliantly talented community cast of 16 theatrical hopefuls from across Yorkshire will take to the stage every night. Directed by Josette Bushell-Mingo, THE WIZ is a feel-good musical for all the family this summer.
Treyc commented on playing Dorothy
On the X-Factor I was singing in front of millions of viewers every week, but I can't wait to be singing live in front of an audience every night. You get so much back from people it's the best feeling in the world. The Wiz is a fabulous musical and so this really is a dream come true for me.
27-year-old Treyc Cohen entered The X-Factor for the first time in 2009 and got as far as the boot camp auditions at Simon Cowell's house but didn't make it through to the live finals. However, she returned stronger and more determined in 2010 and was chosen from thousands as Cheryl Coles 'wild card' act. Having got through to the final 16 performers for the live final, Treyc was eliminated during a sing-off with controversial contestant Katie Waissel.
